Product description
The LF-24-405-24.2x16-POL is an industrial UV-A fixture with a peak wavelength of 404 nm within a 315–405 nm band. The fixture is built around an aluminium PCB with 108 high-density 2835 UV-A LEDs, integrated onto a passive aluminium heatsink and finished with a polarised PMMA cover.
The polarised cover filters non-directional light components and suppresses direct reflections and stray light, which in inspection and fluorescence setups results in higher image contrast and more reliable detection on glossy or reflective surfaces. Combined with the wide 120° beam angle and high LED density, the fixture delivers homogeneous UV-A illumination across shorter working distances, optimised for wide-area coverage rather than concentrated peak output.
Applications
Fluorescence excitation and detection — At a 5 cm working distance the irradiance reaches 412.1 W/m², sufficient for strong excitation of UV-A-sensitive fluorophores such as fluorescein, quinine and NDT penetrants. The polarised cover suppresses direct reflections of the excitation light, allowing the fluorescence signal to be more clearly distinguished from background light in camera-based detection systems.
Non-destructive testing (NDT inspection) — For magnetic-particle and dye-penetrant inspection a working distance of 10–20 cm is common, where the fixture delivers 172.8 W/m² and 53.75 W/m² of UV-A respectively. This comfortably exceeds the typical 10 W/m² minimum requirement (ASTM E3022 / ISO 3059), with headroom for pulsed operation and larger object distances.
Machine vision and surface inspection — Polarisation reduces glare from reflective or wet surfaces, which is essential for high-resolution camera detection of scratches, coating defects and subsurface contamination. At 15 cm working distance the fixture provides 87.6 W/m² of homogeneous UV-A across the 220 mm fixture length, suited to continuous inspection of linear conveyor systems.
UV-A curing — For low-to-medium-intensity curing of UV-A-sensitive adhesives, inks and coatings the fixture is applicable at working distances of 5–10 cm, where 412.1 W/m² to 172.8 W/m² is available. Combined with pulsed operation via a suitable controller, shorter cure times can be achieved without exceeding the thermal operating point.
Material and validation analysis — In laboratory and quality-control setups 405 nm is used for optical characterisation, fluorescent labelling and degradation testing. The polarised emission provides reproducible, directional illumination that reduces noise sources in spectral and imaging measurements.
Integration
This fixture is designed as a building block for industrial systems. The modular platform architecture provides different cooling, cover and wavelength variants within a single design; configurations and use cases are detailed in the modular fixture info sheet in the download section.
The 24V CV platform enables fast pulse switching, essential for peak output above nominal power. In pulsed operation, a higher instantaneous irradiance can be achieved than in continuous operation at equal or lower average power — delivering higher efficiency in many applications. Combined with the MaNima Pollux Industry controller, the fixture provides real-time monitoring of current, voltage and temperature, PWM control and pulse control with adjustable pulse times from 2µs to 1000ms. The controller supports Ethernet connectivity for PLC and SCADA integration, UDP, analogue signals, digital contacts and network protocols for seamless connection to existing process controls and machine environments.
