Product description
The LuxaLight Industrial Blue 450 nm fixture is developed for OEMs, machine builders and system integrators requiring a modular blue light building block for industrial inspection, machine vision and analytical setups. The fixture combines an aluminium PCB with 108 high-density 2835 LEDs on a passive aluminium heatsink, protected by a transparent PMMA cover.
The transparent PMMA cover preserves optical clarity across the visible range and provides a flat transmission characteristic over the 450 nm peak, leaving the LED emission spectrum essentially unchanged at the target surface. It protects the LED plane against dust, moisture and industrial contamination without significant loss of light output, making the fixture suitable for use in dusty or humid production environments.
Applications
Machine vision and industrial inspection — At 450 nm the fixture delivers strong contrast enhancement on materials with absorption or reflectance differences in the blue spectrum, and on fluorescent defects in paints, polymers and coatings. At a working distance of 10 cm the illuminance reaches 10,930 lx and at 20 cm 3,447 lx, sufficient for short exposure times on high-speed line-scan and area-scan cameras. For wash-down environments in food or pharma processing, the same optical assembly is available in a water-cooled stainless steel 316 housing.
Fluorescence excitation — 450 nm falls within the excitation spectrum of many fluorophores and dyes used in defect detection, biomedical imaging and materials research. At 5 cm the fixture provides 24,600 lx and a total irradiance of 554.6 W/m², enabling strong excitation signals and a high signal-to-noise ratio on the emission camera. An optical bandpass filter in front of the camera separates the excitation from the emission light.
Photopolymerisation and blue-light curing — The 450 nm peak matches the absorption bands of photoinitiators such as acylphosphine oxides used in dental composites, 3D printing resins and industrial coatings. At 5 cm the fixture delivers 24,600 lx and at 10 cm 10,930 lx, sufficient for curing of thin layers within seconds. Exact cure time depends on photoinitiator concentration, layer thickness and required conversion level.
Plant research and horticultural setups — With a PPFD of 911 µmol/m²/s at 10 cm and 465 µmol/m²/s at 15 cm the fixture is suitable for research into blue-light responses in plants, including stomatal opening, phototropism and germination studies. At 10 cm the PPFD exceeds the saturation level of many C3 crops, allowing dose-response experiments by varying the working distance.
Integration
This fixture is designed as a building block for industrial systems. The modular platform architecture provides different cooling, cover and wavelength variants within a single design; configurations and use cases are detailed in the modular fixture info sheet in the download section.
The 24V CV platform enables fast pulse switching, essential for peak output above nominal power. In pulsed operation, a higher instantaneous irradiance can be achieved than in continuous operation at equal or lower average power — delivering higher efficiency in many applications. Combined with the MaNima Pollux Industry controller, the fixture provides real-time monitoring of current, voltage and temperature, PWM control and pulse control with adjustable pulse times from 2µs to 1000ms. The controller supports Ethernet connectivity for PLC and SCADA integration, UDP, analogue signals, digital contacts and network protocols for seamless connection to existing process controls and machine environments.
