Product description

The LF-24-395-24.2x16-POL is an industrial UV-A fixture with a peak wavelength at 397 nm within the 315–405 nm band. The LED engine is integrated onto an aluminium PCB with a passive aluminium heatsink and finished with a polarised PMMA cover. 108 high-density 2835 UV-A LEDs deliver a homogeneous light field within a 120° beam, suitable for wide-area UV-A illumination at short to medium working distances.

The polarised cover suppresses specular reflections and stray light from glossy or glass-like surfaces, increasing contrast in UV fluorescence inspection and machine vision tasks where unfiltered illumination would produce disruptive glare. Combined with a polariser on the detector side — crossed or parallel — the signal-to-noise ratio on reflective substrates can be further optimised.

Applications

Fluorescence excitation and detection — The 397 nm peak falls within the excitation range of many UV-A-sensitive tracers, fluorescent pigments and biomarkers. At a 15 cm working distance the total irradiance is 100.3 W/m², well above the 10 W/m² minimum specified in ASTM E1417 for fluorescent penetrant inspection. The polarised cover increases contrast between fluorescent indication and background reflection.

Non-destructive testing (NDT) — For magnetic particle inspection and fluorescent penetrant inspection the fixture delivers 486.4 W/m² at 5 cm and 100.3 W/m² at 15 cm. This covers the detection threshold for indications on metal surfaces without repositioning the inspection head.

UV curing of adhesives and coatings — Curing UV-A-reactive resins and adhesives at 5 cm distance reaches a dose of 1000 mJ/cm² in approximately 20 seconds at 486.4 W/m² irradiance. The 120° beam enables curing across linear or wider substrates in a single pass.

Machine vision and surface inspection — The combination of UV-A illumination and polarised output suppresses specular reflections from glass, plastic and polished metal, making defect detection and pattern recognition on these substrates more reliable.

Forensic and analytical inspection — Detection of fluorescent traces, document and authenticity verification and trace analysis benefit from a homogeneous UV-A field with suppressed reflections on the inspection plane, improving visibility of weak fluorescent signals.

Integration

This fixture is designed as a building block for industrial systems. The modular platform architecture provides different cooling, cover and wavelength variants within a single design; configurations and use cases are detailed in the modular fixture info sheet in the download section.

The 24V CV platform enables fast pulse switching, essential for peak output above nominal power. In pulsed operation, a higher instantaneous irradiance can be achieved than in continuous operation at equal or lower average power — delivering higher efficiency in many applications. Combined with the MaNima Pollux Industry controller, the fixture provides real-time monitoring of current, voltage and temperature, PWM control and pulse control with adjustable pulse times from 2µs to 1000ms. The controller supports Ethernet connectivity for PLC and SCADA integration, UDP, analogue signals, digital contacts and network protocols for seamless connection to existing process controls and machine environments.
