Product description
The LuxaLight LF-24-960-24.2X16-POL is an industrial Near-Infrared fixture with a measured peak at 963 nm. The fixture combines 108 × 2835 SMD LEDs on an aluminium PCB with an integrated aluminium heatsink and a polarised PMMA cover in a sealed housing with IP64 protection.
The polarised PMMA cover suppresses specular glare and stray radiation, providing directional contrast when inspecting reflective, transparent and glossy surfaces — a combination that is not available with a neutral glass cover. The 963 nm peak sits just below the water absorption band around 970 nm, making the fixture suitable for spectroscopic measurements where water and moisture signals are relevant.
Applications
Machine vision on reflective surfaces — The polarisation suppresses direct reflections on metal, glass, liquids and coated substrates, exposing subsurface features and surface defects to NIR-sensitive Si-CMOS cameras. At 15 cm working distance the fixture delivers 60.46 W/m² total irradiance with a peak irradiance of 1.15 W/m², enabling short camera exposure times on high-speed production lines.
NIR spectroscopy and moisture sensing — The 963 nm peak sits next to the near-IR water absorption band around 970 nm, suitable for moisture-content measurements in grain, wood, paper, textiles and agricultural products. At 5 cm distance the irradiance reaches 314 W/m², sufficient for line-scan spectrometers and near-IR diffuse-reflectance measurements.
Plastics sorting and material identification — In recycling streams, polymers such as PET, HDPE, PP and PS are distinguished by their NIR spectral signature in the 900–1000 nm range. The stable 963 nm source provides reproducible diffuse reflectance measurements, with the polarised cover suppressing specular reflections from glossy film and labels so that the deeper reflection signal from the bulk material remains clean.
Semiconductor and wafer inspection — Silicon is partially transparent around 960 nm, enabling subsurface inspection of wafers, bonding defects, micro-cracks and buried structures. The 120° beam combined with polarisation reduces front-surface reflections that would otherwise mask subsurface contrast; at 10 cm working distance 117.3 W/m² is available for short-exposure high-resolution imaging.
Authentication and covert markings — NIR-active inks, taggants and security features on packaging, documents and banknotes become visible under 963 nm illumination without visible light interfering with the image. The polarisation prevents specular reflections on coatings and laminates from masking the detection signal.
Integration
This fixture is designed as a building block for industrial systems. The modular platform architecture provides different cooling, cover and wavelength variants within a single design; configurations and use cases are detailed in the modular fixture info sheet in the download section.
The 24V CV platform enables fast pulse switching, essential for peak output above nominal power. In pulsed operation, a higher instantaneous irradiance can be achieved than in continuous operation at equal or lower average power — delivering higher efficiency in many applications. Combined with the MaNima Pollux Industry controller, the fixture provides real-time monitoring of current, voltage and temperature, PWM control and pulse control with adjustable pulse times from 2µs to 1000ms. The controller supports Ethernet connectivity for PLC and SCADA integration, UDP, analogue signals, digital contacts and network protocols for seamless connection to existing process controls and machine environments.
