Product description
Industrial NIR LED fixture with a peak wavelength of 852 nm (nominal 860 nm) on a single channel. The assembly consists of a 220 mm aluminum PCB carrying 108 SMD 2835 LEDs, integrated into an aluminum housing with a transparent PMMA cover providing IP64 protection.
The PMMA cover offers high transmission across the NIR range around 850–870 nm with minimal absorption or scattering, preserving the LED spectral distribution at the measurement plane. This makes the fixture directly applicable in inspection and imaging systems where reproducible, narrowband NIR illumination is required.
Applications
Machine vision and NIR inspection NIR illumination reveals contrast that is lost in the visible spectrum — distinguishing visually identical polymers, seeing through coatings, detecting moisture traces, or revealing markings beneath transparent layers. At 5 cm working distance the fixture delivers 345.3 W/m² irradiance, dropping to 43.26 W/m² at 20 cm, ample for short-exposure illumination in line-scan and area-scan camera systems. Silicon CMOS and CCD sensors retain good quantum efficiency around 850 nm, so light level is rarely the limiting factor.
Hyperspectral imaging and multispectral analysis 860 nm is a key band for NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) calculation and is widely used in food sorting, plastic recycling, agritech and pharmaceutical inspection. Paired with a multispectral camera or spectrometer, the fixture provides the NIR reference band for spectral-difference analysis. The 120° beam angle delivers uniform illumination across wider conveyors and inspection planes.
Biometric imaging and NIR security The 850–870 nm band is the standard for vein pattern recognition (palm- and finger-vein), iris scanning and CCTV night-vision, because NIR is virtually invisible to the human eye yet within the sensitive range of silicon sensors. The 220 mm linear form factor suits access-control gates, biometric terminals and surveillance setups where stray light to the subject must remain undetectable. At 25 cm working distance 28.72 W/m² is available — sufficient for reflective imaging on skin or iris at short shutter times.
NIR spectroscopy and non-destructive testing (NDT) NIR around 850 nm penetrates organics, paper, textiles and certain polymers without noticeable heating, exposing internal structure and moisture content. Combined with a spectrometer or NIR camera, the fixture acts as a reference or illumination source for moisture mapping, film-thickness measurement, foreign-material detection and authentication inspection. At 30 cm the fixture still provides 21.44 W/m², suitable for inspection lines with longer working distances.
Integration
This fixture is designed as a building block for industrial systems. The modular platform architecture provides different cooling, cover and wavelength variants within a single design; configurations and use cases are detailed in the modular fixture info sheet in the download section.
The 24V CV platform enables fast pulse switching, essential for peak output above nominal power. In pulsed operation, a higher instantaneous irradiance can be achieved than in continuous operation at equal or lower average power — delivering higher efficiency in many applications. Combined with the MaNima Pollux Industry controller, the fixture provides real-time monitoring of current, voltage and temperature, PWM control and pulse control with adjustable pulse times from 2µs to 1000ms. The controller supports Ethernet connectivity for PLC and SCADA integration, UDP, analogue signals, digital contacts and network protocols for seamless connection to existing process controls and machine environments.
